How a job works

One joiner from the first message to the final fix. Here's what happens at each stage and what helps it go smoothly.

  1. Message me on WhatsApp

Send a few photos of the space, rough sizes if you have them, your area and when you'd like the work done. A short description is plenty to start with.

Tip: See what to send a joiner for a quote for a quick checklist.

  2. I come and measure up

For most jobs I'll arrange to see the space. I measure it properly and talk through materials, finishes and timing with you.

This is where uneven walls, sloping floors and anything hidden behind the plaster show up, so it's worth doing before anything is priced.

Tip: Have a think about finishes before the visit, such as painted or natural timber, and any handles or details you'd like.

  3. You get a clear quote

You'll know what's included before anything is ordered or cut.

Tip: If you're weighing up options, ask for them to be set out side by side. It's much easier to decide before anything is made.

  4. I make it, fit it and finish it

The person who measured is the person who fits, so the details you agreed are the details you get.

Made-to-measure pieces are built to the space and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps left for filler.

Tip: See recent work for jobs at every stage, from first fix to fitted.

Getting ready for the work

  • Clear the area being worked on, and the route to it, of anything fragile.
  • Agree where materials can be stored while the job is on.
  • Let me know about parking and access, especially for long lengths of timber.
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area while tools are out.
  • Decide paint colours, handles and finishes early so nothing waits on a decision.

Questions about the process

Are you a company or one joiner?

HUG Joinery is a sole trader business, so you deal with one person. The joiner who replies to your message is the joiner who measures up and does the work.

What should I send in my first message?

A few photos of the space, rough measurements if you have them, your area and when you'd like the work done. That's plenty to work out the next step.

How do I get a quote?

Message me on WhatsApp with a few photos of the job. For most jobs I'll need to see the space and measure up before I can give you a price.

Do you work on new builds as well as existing homes?

Yes. Recent jobs include roof trusses and floor joists on new builds, as well as kitchens, staircases and storage in homes people are living in.

Which areas do you cover?

West Yorkshire, mainly Wakefield, Featherstone and Pontefract. If you're elsewhere in West Yorkshire, send a message with your area and the job and I'll let you know if I can help.

Tell me what you’d like built.

A message with a couple of photos is the easiest way to start. There's no form to fill in and no obligation.

Only got a question? Ask it on WhatsApp. That's fine too.
